Could have been the drought or the record temperatures that we had this year. <br />
The nuc delta also looks weak as well and this hive was also very strong a month or so ago. Very disheartening after losing one hive over the winter and was hoping to go into the winter with four hives and now looks like maybe two hives will be strong enough to make through the winter.<br />
<br />
Not hardly any honey to speak of as well so the year was Kind of a bust all around . If this keeps up I may just stop and cut my losses as this hobby is getting expensive and disappointing to keep up.<br />
<br />
As it is I will not continue with the top bar hive, just to much trouble to manage in my opinion. Well that's about it, sorry no pics as I just don't feel at this time like messing with it.<br />

The girls seem to like the additional space and took right to it. We also believe we have found the new queen in Bravo, which was the hive that swarmed 3 times and gave us Nuc1 and Nuc 2.<br /><br />We will be moving Nuc 2 into an expanded box hopefully tomorrow, giving them additional space as well. The top bar is large enough to accomodate two complete colonies if we decide to. We also found a queen cell unhatched in Bravo and are a little concerned about it, not knowing if this is an indicator of yet another swarm, hard to believe as the new queen has already mated and is laying brood. Have half a mind to remove said queen cell and place with some nurse bees in a separate queen chamber, if nothing else it would be an emergency queen for any mishaps in the future. Will wait and put some thought into it tonight.<br /><br /><br />Enjoy the photos!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476864808550476722" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgup1VEg6cZjDChYf3vts1TnoBiRrRHZT5afzO0C0v7w270wkLT3swY660qRwxm6maSF7flfdbUzaS4kRivP5wd4vJEDOCUTx31Cw4wS6AItbaDmG6KgZEsVulO7qurCW9jtFTAoDydCrk/s320/queen.JPG" border="0" /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqnEkYLvGmORO8f4X9_bXFGA46YbrbdBpw96dC6yACtneTpuB9zD0wPeWQsDNkXLG5kT2zy-gq7WyKP9Nb7AWgWeTiFG0f4Zc0wTBRn35D4eeEKuuv7bZo5PTQIpmeboPLxG1sm1y_XxA/s1600/DSC_0039.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476864798068700290" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqnEkYLvGmORO8f4X9_bXFGA46YbrbdBpw96dC6yACtneTpuB9zD0wPeWQsDNkXLG5kT2zy-gq7WyKP9Nb7AWgWeTiFG0f4Zc0wTBRn35D4eeEKuuv7bZo5PTQIpmeboPLxG1sm1y_XxA/s320/DSC_0039.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div></div></div>Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-26684046221281733922010-05-19T16:55:00.000-07:002010-05-19T16:56:57.266-07:00Hive Activity 5/19/10Bravo post swarm:<br />after 3 swarms this hive still looks very strong, lots of bees sitting on the landing board, and lots leaving every minute, looks like a strong hive in summer. Not sure what the number of bees were in the swarms, both were pretty large as we caught 2 of the 3 swarms. Still not sure if the hive has a queen even as the weather has been dismal and not have an opportunity to get into any of them. They are bringing in pollen, lots of it, so unless we have a laying worker, it may mean that we are queen right. So lots of activity at this stage.<br /><br /> Charlie:<br />package put in this year, they are very aggressive (Russian) they will sting at any attempt to enter the box, hoping that her brood is more docile, will wait and re queen in the fall if necessary. Otherwise they appear to be doing well. Building up well and as they were placed on drawn comb, the queen went straight to laying brood.<br /><br /> Nuc 1:<br />swarm that was captured from Bravo, all looks good at the entrance, pollen being brought in and lots of activity.<br /><br /> Nuc 2:<br />swarm that was captured from Bravo, all looks good at the entrance, pollen being brought in and lots of activity.<br />Speculating as to combine both the swarm nucs into a top bar hive that i have built and ready to use.<br /><br /> Overall the weather has been dismal, lots of rain and cool temps for the past week or so, getting into the hives have been impossible due to the rain, odd side note some of the girls have been landing in the mud in packs and are gathering something though i do not know what.Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-23609439248284356642010-05-10T13:05:00.000-07:002010-05-10T13:29:28.337-07:00SWARM IIWell we believe with the amount of activity in Bravo yesterday and this morning that it we may have just postponed the swarm accidently until this morning, and like clockwork while I was outside they started to swarm again this morning. My son and I cut the limb down and put them in a box again, and (fingers crossed) they are doing housekeeping and some orientation flights now. Hopefully everything went off without a hitch this time.<br /><br />The first photo is the ball of bees in the tree, the other photo is our beagle sitting under the tree and watching the bees ball up.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uryD9QdjSdFv1QRD2t0Ni_Ykmm5XG7D_SjaFE9C0Hf7Tt8YagLEQFQneBSrCPChZUv_Zn-OMT1OBj-314TZGhhYpV9c7QMICF8kZmgdYi26hOhHQVHBPyS2IlgSywbnDFmdSrOVqtRs/s1600/DSC_0023.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469738612192457634" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uryD9QdjSdFv1QRD2t0Ni_Ykmm5XG7D_SjaFE9C0Hf7Tt8YagLEQFQneBSrCPChZUv_Zn-OMT1OBj-314TZGhhYpV9c7QMICF8kZmgdYi26hOhHQVHBPyS2IlgSywbnDFmdSrOVqtRs/s320/DSC_0023.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9VOaqAdaqxxNVV0ycFH16IKWDxfM6IUuXPc3JwkjDIxnhFBlyuUEn1L7HGofgXiv4q71ohbnR8_KqOZHhWEzsc4y0luuKKiIf32non0YViXqIWdacLGWkNw3H-6VsXORC8PNUfvtZmP8/s1600/DSC_0018.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469739261095237650" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9VOaqAdaqxxNVV0ycFH16IKWDxfM6IUuXPc3JwkjDIxnhFBlyuUEn1L7HGofgXiv4q71ohbnR8_KqOZHhWEzsc4y0luuKKiIf32non0YViXqIWdacLGWkNw3H-6VsXORC8PNUfvtZmP8/s320/DSC_0018.JPG" border="0" /></a></div>Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-70532291164419050522010-05-09T19:17:00.001-07:002010-05-09T19:32:30.493-07:00SWARM!Went outside to check on the hives and look off to my left and there is a ball of bees hanging out a branch, looks like Bravo swarmed! I got my gear and a box and then with my wifes help we cut the branch and put the girls in a box.<br />Less than an hour later and they had swarmed again. We looked everywhere nearby , but could not find them again.<br />Oh well, hopefully they will find a home and do okay. At least we are helping to reestablish the depleted bee population here in the area anyway.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBuhn5Dbzv14D3scGlWD6V1h18l8VjiWBODHUEYU6QXm76wrQ4fn-D00450jx7oyzNMUrEjgIBo2JNjk5ZqxsALfoMEtfylJGc4JuEVPnGMikdo_7PY-DS5s-yp83iCOGyJlMrYQ7gQU/s1600/DSC_0056+(2).JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469462430716623698" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBuhn5Dbzv14D3scGlWD6V1h18l8VjiWBODHUEYU6QXm76wrQ4fn-D00450jx7oyzNMUrEjgIBo2JNjk5ZqxsALfoMEtfylJGc4JuEVPnGMikdo_7PY-DS5s-yp83iCOGyJlMrYQ7gQU/s320/DSC_0056+(2).JPG" border="0" /></a></div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFruIDlf6lb0fmBpIWpzTlVYFmfoVMOvX3UFnWKUo-fOM9AecNHwM4eO7kj9DD3PADv1AB1Ima0ypckz8dJ0wP-61MfLvvZpKjfQdBoszpT3LYfNyYlMm_ZCPZmlREOsxTfVGK8SQzFVc/s1600/DSC_0054+(2).JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469462423415979458" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFruIDlf6lb0fmBpIWpzTlVYFmfoVMOvX3UFnWKUo-fOM9AecNHwM4eO7kj9DD3PADv1AB1Ima0ypckz8dJ0wP-61MfLvvZpKjfQdBoszpT3LYfNyYlMm_ZCPZmlREOsxTfVGK8SQzFVc/s320/DSC_0054+(2).JPG" border="0" /></a> <div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBuhn5Dbzv14D3scGlWD6V1h18l8VjiWBODHUEYU6QXm76wrQ4fn-D00450jx7oyzNMUrEjgIBo2JNjk5ZqxsALfoMEtfylJGc4JuEVPnGMikdo_7PY-DS5s-yp83iCOGyJlMrYQ7gQU/s1600/DSC_0056+(2).JPG"></a> </div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJBuhn5Dbzv14D3scGlWD6V1h18l8VjiWBODHUEYU6QXm76wrQ4fn-D00450jx7oyzNMUrEjgIBo2JNjk5ZqxsALfoMEtfylJGc4JuEVPnGMikdo_7PY-DS5s-yp83iCOGyJlMrYQ7gQU/s1600/DSC_0056+(2).JPG"></a> </div>Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-40159458652808479862010-04-26T10:15:00.000-07:002010-04-26T15:08:12.832-07:00Rain<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOpgurwIYP1N74Li9e9ibLW-q82xgYpMJvrXs5y9v77CgK8nSjhyphenhyphenxwnO6JkcewVNIUlnDM7rxkq5yzQzF5TWK8ZC05sO_zdDH02gTwp7ELKGe1BfuUE-kIoGO5bnb5M7NOno30noiWWwc/s1600/goodbee.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464571251426968546" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 157px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOpgurwIYP1N74Li9e9ibLW-q82xgYpMJvrXs5y9v77CgK8nSjhyphenhyphenxwnO6JkcewVNIUlnDM7rxkq5yzQzF5TWK8ZC05sO_zdDH02gTwp7ELKGe1BfuUE-kIoGO5bnb5M7NOno30noiWWwc/s320/goodbee.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>I attended the 2010 Indiana Beekeepers field day on 4/24. There was a pitch in dinner and a hive inspection for the newer folks with bees and then a seminar from a local member regarding swarming. If you are not in a local club I strongly suggest you get into one, as the benefits are many for the novice bee keeper.<br /><br />Weather has not been kind the past couple days. Nothing but rain and storms. Havent been able to get into any of the hives, was going to attempt some queen grafting this weekend if the weather permitted, but was not to be. Decisions decisions...Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-15768161978679842342010-03-21T08:30:00.000-07:002010-03-21T08:35:19.192-07:00March 2010Have now started to build a top bar hive (one from Michael Bush's page) everything has been going well, girls look good and we are awaiting the arrival of our russians in april.<br /><br />Weather has been quite well and they are bringing in lots of pollen, rain is forecast for the next couple days, but then nice temp and sun for the rest of the week, so they can get at it again. My son and I are also going to attempt to aquire some bees from my uncles farm as he has a bee tree there, so we are getting some swarms boxes ready and are going to place them near the tree and see if we have any luck.<br /><br />All for today...Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-16763614769296582812010-03-07T19:14:00.000-08:002010-03-07T19:21:02.642-08:00New YearWell a new season has begun...<br /><br />the weather was warm today, bout 55 degrees or so and the girls were a flying alot. i lost alpha to starvation, hive was literally empty and the cells had butts sticking up out of them, so it was starvation as near as I can tell. bravo on the other hand is going like gang busters! I mean boiling out of the entrance today and bringing bucket loads of pollen as well, though I dont know from where or what kind it is. I looked around the area and I see nothing blooming to speak of.<br /><br />I have new bees coming in April (Russian hybrids) for alpha and my son and I are going to try our hand at breeding some of our own queens. Specifically out of Bravo since it did so well over the winter.<br /><br />well guess thats it for now, will post some pics soon.Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-24408919646070385022009-08-30T13:49:00.000-07:002009-08-30T14:18:27.385-07:008.30.09<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqk6EBe5ZnDSC3wZ881TENzR6pwsq6_irKxBIyg7hkufVpv41Wx3QG39vm9Uv4DmldxQsT-33eTS2YtA9N_GxcsiDcqahupEYkUZy4S37Jqri8TppMaBcg8Qu9J0aw7s9dCAmtFMJNXkY/s1600-h/DSC_1103.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375866547138786258" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqk6EBe5ZnDSC3wZ881TENzR6pwsq6_irKxBIyg7hkufVpv41Wx3QG39vm9Uv4DmldxQsT-33eTS2YtA9N_GxcsiDcqahupEYkUZy4S37Jqri8TppMaBcg8Qu9J0aw7s9dCAmtFMJNXkY/s320/DSC_1103.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxCPSK4x5bmlaN_NrAt1hE4vH1rTb8vLSKuvzVlueL5pvx0icDq-Hc13Wyaxw4zwspHnl_gn7hlCuDTnutLprYW6itOZSPJ5lVvVs09WRABK88ySBUjjUIAzISjJ6zbMgCqv4BIEudSAI/s1600-h/DSC_1076.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375866537686310546" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 274px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 148px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxCPSK4x5bmlaN_NrAt1hE4vH1rTb8vLSKuvzVlueL5pvx0icDq-Hc13Wyaxw4zwspHnl_gn7hlCuDTnutLprYW6itOZSPJ5lVvVs09WRABK88ySBUjjUIAzISjJ6zbMgCqv4BIEudSAI/s320/DSC_1076.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH_7gYfEmMqbQ1EfYVXj5nglFttwutvAALwycxP6lHcO61TEsQ06JI88i_WXzCuDr-CQsIBsAQrUYCpw-xy5tI2c5GzPXYC7V6sIHtRdLBYD8_w-ohU3Vyr1SHUWXSzQlyunmdsPw6Sok/s1600-h/DSC_1050.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375866532258297794" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH_7gYfEmMqbQ1EfYVXj5nglFttwutvAALwycxP6lHcO61TEsQ06JI88i_WXzCuDr-CQsIBsAQrUYCpw-xy5tI2c5GzPXYC7V6sIHtRdLBYD8_w-ohU3Vyr1SHUWXSzQlyunmdsPw6Sok/s320/DSC_1050.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0zrK-VyGP7GNmu0xfwGR0Ek4RRZnng5S-f5QjfdlwJh-0mu2CbW3xvESHfKau8E8RUadkPgTTFbW4ZlW3XLKUtWDY5RmrtQ2PfkrwOg4wgPzeBHCjBAjw9XypjEGuakxtt9Yc6uKhSdA/s1600-h/DSC_1021.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375866514613861666" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0zrK-VyGP7GNmu0xfwGR0Ek4RRZnng5S-f5QjfdlwJh-0mu2CbW3xvESHfKau8E8RUadkPgTTFbW4ZlW3XLKUtWDY5RmrtQ2PfkrwOg4wgPzeBHCjBAjw9XypjEGuakxtt9Yc6uKhSdA/s320/DSC_1021.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHTvFvwZqOdbOuZxfL27kI3tBO4m8-McIXiDIGxsHp7_6GwItJ_mlG4R7XiQUdCInpUOUNRwDEQTmeQVV9ugYW9gXRkbRiM08nWtNKEuTW_n0OTas_zNVck9XclA1jqZmE4aNUJkbww0g/s1600-h/DSC_1020.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375866521678486130" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHTvFvwZqOdbOuZxfL27kI3tBO4m8-McIXiDIGxsHp7_6GwItJ_mlG4R7XiQUdCInpUOUNRwDEQTmeQVV9ugYW9gXRkbRiM08nWtNKEuTW_n0OTas_zNVck9XclA1jqZmE4aNUJkbww0g/s320/DSC_1020.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Sunny</div><div>temp 75 and breezy</div><br /><div>Did a complete inspection of both hives today and was pleased at what we saw, Alpha as always is looking good, they built a lot of drone comb on the bottom of a a couple of frames, and this made it a little hard to remove some of the frames. Alpha my first and my 10 frame hive is doing fantastic, started feeding them earlier in the month of July and they are really filling frames for the winter now. Bravo my small 5 frame nuc is also doing very well and building up quick. Weather has finally took a turn for the better and I beleive that nectar is now more readily available. I am very happy with the way things are looking now, outlook for the winter is much better.<br /><br />I really cant believe how much I enjoy watching them every day. My son and myself sit out near the hives and just watch the action, and on my days off i get up early and go out and watch them (they are really active then).Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-46630817072580545542009-08-01T07:06:00.000-07:002009-08-01T07:10:24.615-07:008.1.09Been checking food stores and after having several conversations with the local beeks, I decided to start feeding now, since all the rain that we have been having has cut the nectar flow to next to nothing.<br /><br />Started feeding 2:1 now as the food stores they have are very little and am worried that there wont be enough to last them the winter. We have had rain and cloudy weather throughout the month of July (something like 20 days of rain and only 3 full days of sunlight the entire month)<br /><br />will continue to feed until late septemberHoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-40143839274210244622009-07-14T16:18:00.000-07:002009-07-19T20:13:29.722-07:007.12.09temp:85 sunny and clear <div><div><div><div>heat index 85</div><div>We moved the bees from the nuc to the 10 frame deep (2) , lit the smoker up just in case but never needed to smoke them. It looks like bottom two are pretty full so I added the 3rd one for more space. They have not pulled any comb there yet and its been a week. I put the feeder back in and they went nuts over it (I guess they need it?) Anyway I am hoping that they will move up and and pull some comb now. Also a large number 50 or so at the entrance maybe cooling the hive, dont know as of yet but still observing thier behavior. Orientation flights!!! Many, many bees taking small circles around the entrance and then bigger circles etc. was a treat to watch!Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-58113899211355542962009-06-20T14:11:00.000-07:002009-06-20T14:20:28.242-07:00<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjok1Zrg2Uo4S5L1TLTB92GEnMreTGarOo4aeXgQ3W0HzbhFAxkquznWQwacj5SQXY_ZjPu4Psx66LDRwXh8_RZvKA26xQwZeY05zL_okk-ljsigi_VzwdkbYr3Czj_-kmzDS6bgUMZ1UU/s1600-h/grad07+010.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349522699286029298" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjok1Zrg2Uo4S5L1TLTB92GEnMreTGarOo4aeXgQ3W0HzbhFAxkquznWQwacj5SQXY_ZjPu4Psx66LDRwXh8_RZvKA26xQwZeY05zL_okk-ljsigi_VzwdkbYr3Czj_-kmzDS6bgUMZ1UU/s200/grad07+010.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDPfgREcqzG7fB5JA6o5z0_M05WnZuwl_V7gBapFcxp4boyL699pW2bGWojhaEleua0MRw6MGO3-q8Ms-ZdeSmufuzb4RRrm0vCKuo5BtRjcUhw9paY7t89nhsTm4_iuqS5o0ReaenuO4/s1600-h/grad07+003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349522109717768466" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDPfgREcqzG7fB5JA6o5z0_M05WnZuwl_V7gBapFcxp4boyL699pW2bGWojhaEleua0MRw6MGO3-q8Ms-ZdeSmufuzb4RRrm0vCKuo5BtRjcUhw9paY7t89nhsTm4_iuqS5o0ReaenuO4/s200/grad07+003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12lRYwUSQ71owMNKTLEeEypK9bs8jt4nlQnvChYZ36wA1lg95yCNkC6mtqWFad-R4IaAPeqTnQ4nhs96sJmUpNcKXPluCtBEkRn67Ng7GstqgLHXHeS4nVFPIuJoo5W66TDQesIj-aiU/s1600-h/grad07+004.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349521556285824610" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 133px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12lRYwUSQ71owMNKTLEeEypK9bs8jt4nlQnvChYZ36wA1lg95yCNkC6mtqWFad-R4IaAPeqTnQ4nhs96sJmUpNcKXPluCtBEkRn67Ng7GstqgLHXHeS4nVFPIuJoo5W66TDQesIj-aiU/s200/grad07+004.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div>6.20.09</div><br /><br /><br /><div>Some earlier photos of hive ( 2 weeks into the insertion of the packaged bees)</div><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-110033757256399642.post-86247512663215101342009-06-20T14:08:00.000-07:002009-06-30T11:43:40.461-07:005/18/09<br />Bees finally arrive, sugared them and waited an hour or so and re sugared them and then pulled queen cage. (all new to me having never done this before) My son and I placed the queen cage and then dumped some bees in the hive around the cage and closed it up. Placed the rest of the bees at the front entrance.<br />5/19/09<br />Son called bees are back in the box and he spotted queen there as well. I came home and we re did sequence of events from the day before only this time i shook all the bees out of the box into the super and really pissed them off (no stings)<br />5/20<br />no data<br />5/21<br />no data<br />5/28<br />we opened upper super and checked the feeder and refilled it, also took a look inside (couldn't resist)<br />They are drawing comb and it all looks good<br />6.8.9<br />opened second super and was excited to see hundreds of brood larvae everywhere! So excited queen is doing her thing! Should be new bees in just a week or so and then honey flow starts!<br />Colony temperament still seems to be incredibly docile upon opening hive bees were not concerned with us in the least bit, it truly is amazing took a lot of photos inside hive as well and also noticed a queen cup located mid of a frame.<br />6.11.09<br />checked brood cells all looked good brood, wrapped with bread wrapped with honey cells in the corners, all is looking good, big storm en route so not much time in the hive, also took out the feeding jar as they are bringing in enough nectar and pollen to feed themselves.Hoosierbeemanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11766819532208283402noreply@blogger.com0
